LABASHEEDA

Formed in 2004 by singer/guitarist Saskia van der Giessen, the Amsterdam-based Labasheeda blend poppy melodies with bursts of noise and distorted violin.

After the release of their well-received first record Charity Box (2006), bassist David Jackson left the band, while Arne Wolfswinkel joined as a second guitar player. In this bass-less line-up Labasheeda recorded a 10”/CD-EP, titled A Few of a Population (2009).

The band turned into a four-piece when Thanos Fiotadis (bass) and Dyan Ramekers (drums) became the new rhythm section. In this line-up the band released the Circle 7” (2009), followed a year later by their second LP/CD, The Twilight State, which again received enthusiastic reviews.

The band often ventures onto foreign soil and toured the UK last February. Other countries where Labasheeda has played over the years are Canada, Germany, the Czech Republic, among others.

The band, now a bass-less trio again, is recording a new album which will be released at the end of the year.
