Liebe Studis*,
wir sind seit einigen Monaten der neue AStA (Allgemeine Studierendenausschuss) der Universität Potsdam. Jetzt mit den neuen Jahr möchten wir uns euch auch einmal ganz offiziell vorstellen. Auf diesen Beitrag hier wurde auch mit unserer ersten Newsletter in diesem Jahr verlinkt.
Wir hatten nun schon ein bisschen Zeit, uns als Gremium zu finden und starten nun in unsere Arbeit, die wir kurz & knapp für euch zusammengefasst haben. Hier könnt ihr die Ziele und Vorstellungen einzelner Referent*innen nachlesen:

Viviane Triems:
Hey liebe Studis!
Ich bin Viviane, 24 Jahre alt und studiere im 5. Semester Rechtswissenschaften.
Nach einer Legislatur im Studierendenparlament ging ich im August 2021 in den Allgemeinen Studierendenausschuss. Dort bin ich Referentin für Geschlechter- und Queerpolitik. Feministische Queerpolitik ist mir ein Herzensthema und wird an unserer Uni leider nicht genug mitgedacht. All Gender Toiletten, kostenlose Periodenprodukte, Parität in hochschulpolitischen Strukturen, die Möglichkeit für Trans* und nichtbinäre Personen ihren Namen ändern zu lassen, sind Themen die bei uns nur schwer umgesetzt werden. Zusammen mit meiner Kollegin Zinat und der Chancengleichheitskommission kämpfe ich genau für diese Themen und eine feministische Uni, die gegen Diskriminierung eintritt.

Hey dear students!
I’m Viviane, 24 years old and I’m a 5th-semester law student.
After one term in the student parliament, I went to the General Student Committee in August 2021. There, I am a speaker for gender and queer politics. Feminist queer politics is a topic close to my heart and is unfortunately not thought about enough at our university. All gender toilets, free period products, parity in university political structures, the possibility for trans* and non-binary people to change their name are topics that are hardly implemented at our university. Together with my colleague Zinat and the Equal Opportunity Commission, I fight for exactly these issues and a feminist university that stands up against discrimination.

Dear students,
My name is Shakura Sultana and I am living in Germany as an international student for more than 2 years now. I am currently in my 5th semester perusing Masters of Arts in Anglophone Mordenites in Literature and Culture. In this legislature, I have been elected as a speaker in the Anti-Racism dept. for the General Students‘ Committee (AStA) of the University of Potsdam.
As an international student in Germany, I have always wanted to work on anti-racism issues moreover, racism is pretty evident in our surroundings. We want a racism-free UP campus and hence my dept. is working on anti-racism and we are available to take any kind of campus-related complaints and to deliver the support of any means if needed.
There have been projects and workshops conducted to raise awareness and we are distributing flyers, leaflets, and sending emails to raise awareness among all students about Anti-Racism. There are also upcoming projects in the pipeline to be finished soon. Apart from campus if you face these kinds of issues and want to tell us we are here to listen and there are arrangements of counseling sessions too.
As a speaker of AStA I am available to help you with any information and support that can be delivered by me. Me and colleagues from other departments are trying to emerge as a strong “Student Body” and for that, we need your support.

Liebe Studis,
mein Name ist Shakura Sultana und ich lebe seit mehr als 2 Jahren als internationale Studentin in Deutschland. Zurzeit befinde ich mich im 5. Semester im Master of Arts in Anglophone Mordenites in Literature and Culture. Dies Wahlperiode wurde ich als Referentin in das Antirassismus Referat gewählt für den Allgemeinen Studierendenausschuss (AStA) der Universität Potsdam.
Als internationale Studentin in Deutschland wollte ich mich schon immer mit dem Thema Antirassismus befassen, da Rassismus in unserem Umfeld sehr präsent ist. Wir wollen einen rassismusfreien UP-Campus und deshalb arbeitet mein Referat an der Anti-Rassismus-Arbeit und wir sind bereit, jede Art von Beschwerden im Zusammenhang mit dem Campus entgegenzunehmen und bei Bedarf mit allen Mitteln zu unterstützen.
Es wurden Projekte und Workshops durchgeführt, um das Bewusstsein zu schärfen, und wir verteilen Flugblätter, Broschüren und versenden E-Mails, um alle Studierenden für das Thema Antirassismus zu sensibilisieren. Außerdem sind weitere Projekte in Planung, die bald abgeschlossen sein werden. Aber auch außerhalb des Campus haben wir ein offenes Ohr für alle, die mit solchen Problemen konfrontiert sind, und wir bieten auch Beratungsgespräche an.
Als Referentin des AStA stehe ich euch mit allen Informationen und Hilfestellungen, die ich geben kann, zur Verfügung. Ich und die Kolleginnen und Kollegen aus den anderen Fachbereichen versuchen, als starke “ Studierendenschaft“ aufzutreten und dafür brauchen wir eure Unterstützung.

Dear Students,
the racism of modern society is not only a function of its distant origins but also of manifestations embedded in practices, discourses, and institutional realities of this world, and for me, it is something that is consciously created in modern society because of being different, different ideologies/motives for life, social hierarchy, a different view of the world in the structure of everyday life. Hence it is a brief explanation of a complex problem that belongs critically in our society today. However, the concepts of this definition, such as discrimination and racial superiority, are not always clear-cut.
We, the AStA of the University of Potsdam, try to find out which incidents of racism the students are confronted within our society based on life experiences. If you come from another culture, you will sometimes have difficulties getting in contact with people from other cultures, as we represent the different cultural ideas internationally from different perspectives as input through workshops, projects, or other events at our university.
Therefore, I am responsible for the department of Anti-racism at the AStA (University of Potsdam), my main focus is on finding out about the problems of the students in individual cases by e-mail, personally in the AStA office, or as initial advice on racist activities. If you have ever experienced racism or have problems interacting with new people because you have a different perspective, or if you want to speak out against oppression or social pressure, I am here to listen to your voice for new experiences collect, new ideas, or your personal opinion.

Liebe Studierende,
der Rassismus der modernen Gesellschaft ist nicht nur eine Folge seiner fernen Ursprünge, sondern auch von Manifestationen, die in Praktiken, Diskursen und institutionellen Realitäten dieser Welt eingebettet sind, und für mich ist er etwas, das in der modernen Gesellschaft bewusst geschaffen wird, weil man anders ist, andere Ideologien/Lebensmotive, soziale Hierarchie, eine andere Sicht auf die Welt in der Struktur des täglichen Lebens. Es handelt sich also um eine kurze Erläuterung eines komplexen Problems, das kritisch in unsere heutige Gesellschaft gehört. Die Begriffe dieser Definition, wie Diskriminierung und rassische Überlegenheit, sind jedoch nicht immer eindeutig zuzuordnen.
Wir, der AStA der Universität Potsdam, versuchen anhand von Lebenserfahrungen herauszufinden, mit welchen Vorfällen von Rassismus die Studierenden in unserer Gesellschaft konfrontiert sind. Wenn man aus einem anderen Kulturkreis kommt, hat man manchmal Schwierigkeiten, mit Menschen aus anderen Kulturen in Kontakt zu kommen, da wir durch Workshops, Projekte oder andere Veranstaltungen an unserer Universität die verschiedenen kulturellen Vorstellungen international aus unterschiedlichen Perspektiven als Input darstellen.
Deshalb bin ich im AStA der Universität Potsdam für das Referat für Antirassismus zuständig und kümmere mich vor allem darum, die Probleme der Studierenden im Einzelfall per E-Mail, persönlich im AStA-Büro oder als Erstberatung zu rassistischen Aktivitäten zu erfahren. Wenn ihr schon einmal Rassismus erlebt habt oder Probleme im Umgang mit anderen Menschen habt, weil ihr eine andere Perspektive habt, oder wenn ihr euch gegen Unterdrückung oder gesellschaftlichen Druck aussprechen wollt, bin ich für euch da, um neue Erfahrungen zu sammeln, neue Ideen oder eure persönliche Meinung zu hören.

Johanna Tiepelmann:
Ich bin Johanna Tiepelmann, studiere im Bachelor Biowissenschaften und bin jetzt zum zweiten Mal für Ökologie und Nachhaltigkeit im AStA. Darüber hinaus bin ich in diesem Monat in den Vorstand des AStA gewählt worden.
In meinem Referat beschäftige ich mich damit, wie die Uni nachhaltiger werden kann. Das kann auf viele Wege angegangen werden, weshalb sich mein Referat sehr abwechslungsreich gestaltet. Ich persönlich beschäftige mich am liebsten aktiv mit der Campusgestaltung. So setze ich mich beispielsweise für Hochbeete ein, die von allen Studierenden genutzt werden können, Dachgärten als zusätzliche Lebensräume für Insekten und den Erhalt und das Informieren über die Obstbäume auf dem Unigelände. Zu meinen Aufgaben gehört aber genauso die Vernetzung mit Hochschulgruppen für Nachhaltigkeit, der Unileitung oder der Umweltkommission, in der ich auch Mitglied bin.

I’m Johanna Tiepelmann, I’m studying life science in my bachelor’s degree and I’m now for the second time for ecology and sustainability in the AStA. In addition, I was elected to the AStA board this month.
In my department, I deal with how the university can become more sustainable. This can be approached in many ways, which is why my department is very diverse. Personally, I prefer to be actively involved in campus design. For example, I advocate for raised beds that can be used by all students, roof gardens as additional habitats for insects, and the preservation of and information about the fruit trees on the university grounds. My tasks also include networking with university groups for sustainability, the university administration and the environmental commission, of which I am also a member.

Moritz Pleuse:
Mein Name ist Moritz Pleuse, ich bin Studierender der Rechtswissenschaft und seit dem neugewählten AStA das erste Mal in selbigem Organ Ansprechpartner für Hochschulpolitik.
In diesem Bereich bin ich für euch aktiv, um eure Belange nach außen zu vertreten. Dazu bin ich im stetigen Kontakt mit Hochschulleitung, Kommune und Land. Hierzu gibt es regelmäßige Sitzungen, um euren Stimmen entsprechend Gehör zu verpassen. Weiterhin aktiv ist das Referat für Hochschulpolitik und meine Person beim Freiem Zusammenschluss der Studierendenschaften (fzs) – eurer Interessensvertretung auf Bundesebene – und der Brandenburgische Studierendenvertretung BrandStuVe. In beiden Institutionen entwickeln wir Ideen und Lösungsansätze das Leben und Wirken der Studierenden zu verbessern und vor allem auch zu erleichtern.
Derweil läuft die Novellierung eines neuen Brandenburgischen Hochschulgesetzes, der Erarbeitung eines Konzeptes für ein in Hybrid stattfindendes Restsemesters und viele weitere spannende Aufgabenfelder, die es anzupacken gilt. Zudem bin ich für den AStA zuständig im Corona-Krisenstab als studentisches Mitglied. Wenn euch also hierzu etwas auf der Seele brennt, lasst es mich gerne wissen.

My name is Moritz Pleuse, I am a student of law and since the newly elected AStA, I am your contact person for university politics.
I am active in this area to represent your interests to the outside. To this, I am in constant contact with the university administration, the city gouvernment and the state of Brandenburg. There are regular meetings to make sure your voices are heard.
The Department for University Politics and myself are also active in the Free Association of Student Bodies (fzs) – your interest group at the federal level – and the Brandenburg student representative body BrandStuVe. In both institutions, we develop ideas and solutions to improve the life and work of students and, above all, to make it easier.
Meanwhile, we are working on the amendment of a new Brandenburg University Law, the development of a concept for more hybrid in this semester and many other exciting tasks that need to be tackled.
In addition, I am responsible for the AStA in the Corona Crisis Committee as a student member. So if there is something on your mind, please let me know.

Als Referent für Internationales helfe ich Studierenden aus dem Ausland
bei allen Anliegen rund ums Studium. Das beinhaltet sowohl
administrative Anliegen, wie der Umgang mit dem Universitätspersonal,
falls dabei Probleme auftreten oder auch die Vermittlung an die
richtigen Stellen bei Schwierigkeiten mit der Einreise, dem Erhalt einer
Aufenthaltsgenehmigung oder auch der Wohnungssuche. Persönlich setze ich
mich ebenfalls für eine Vereinfachung dieser Vorgänge ein, weshalb ich
ebenfalls die Studierendenschaft im Beirat Internationales vertrete.

all matters relating to their studies. This includes administrative
matters, such as dealing with the university staff if problems arise, as
well as referring students to the right authorities if they have
difficulties entering the country, obtaining a residence permit or
finding a place to live. Personally, I am also committed to simplifying
these processes, which is why I also represent the student body in the
International Affairs Advisory Board.

Man muss wohl niemanden erzählen wie wichtig inzwischen die digitale Welt geworden ist. Spätestens seit der digitalen Lehre in Folge der Pandemie ist sie allgegenwärtig.
Mir ist es ein wichtiges Anliegen für eine offene und freie digitale Welt zu kämpfen. Also gegen Überwachung, Netzsperren oder automatische Filter und für die Souveränität über die eigenen Daten.
Aber ich verstehe mich auch als Ansprechpartner und Problemlöser für alle Studis die eine Frage oder ein Anliegen haben, welches mit Technologie zu tun hat. Egal, ob du einfach niemanden hast, der dir bei einem PC-Problem helfen kann, du als studentische Initiative große Server-Kapazitäten brauchst, du vielleicht gerne einen Mail-Verteiler einrichten willst oder du mit Zoom deine Probleme hast. No one needs to be told how important the digital world has become. It has become ubiquitous, at the latest, since the digital teaching in the wake of the pandemic.
It is important to me to fight for an open and free digital world. In other words, against surveillance, Internet blocking or automatic filters, and for sovereignty over one’s own data.
But I also see myself as a contact person and problem solver for all students who have a question or concern that has to do with technology. It doesn’t matter if you simply don’t have anyone who can help you with a PC problem, if you need large server capacities as a student initiative or if you want to set up a mailing list.
